Who we are
Started in 1998 by Gladys Lane, Billie Staff, Beverly Thomas, and the late Doris Bardon, Women for Wise Growth is an organization of women dedicated to preserving a quality of life in Alachua County, Florida, that enhances the social and environmental fabric of our community.
Well-planned growth preserves the social fabric and promotes the health of our community--as does the protection of our water, air, and land resources. We strive to achieve these goals through working together and encouraging community stewardship.
We support and actively work for:
- wise planning that considers carrying capacity, natural resources and the realistic costs of infrastructure and transportation.
- cooperative leadership at the levels of the city, county, school board, and higher education facilities.
- environmental protection and land conservation.
- election of public officials who support our goals.
What we do
We present educational forums on issues such as water, land, transportation, growth and environmental protection.
We sponsor candidate forums and endorse candidates who declare support for wise planning.
We monitor issues at all levels of government to protect Alachua County.
We support adherence to the Comprehensive Plan.
We partner with other organizations and enjoy the support of individual women and men. |
